Join the vibrant team at American Forest Management, Inc. (AFM) as a Forester and play a key role in helping landowners achieve their forestry goals. Reporting directly to the Senior Forester, this position focuses on delivering a wide range of professional forestry services for Non-Industrial Private Forest (NIPF) landowners and other clients.
As a Forester, your responsibilities will include developing comprehensive forest management plans tailored to landowner objectives, setting up and administering timber harvests, conducting forest inventories to assess and monitor forest conditions, and performing additional forestry-related duties as assigned.

Office Location: Ironwood, MI, Florence, WI or Work-From-Home. Must reside within a Michigan/Wisconsin state-line county.
Work Environment:
This role balances office work with remote field assignments. Fieldwork often involves solo ventures into remote forest lands accessed by private unimproved roads, necessitating off-road driving skills. Expect extended periods outdoors, including adverse weather conditions like summer heat and extreme cold. Travel to properties across upper Michigan and northern Wisconsin is required, potentially involving out-of-town and overnight stays (expenses covered).

Responsibilities:
- All aspects of fieldwork, office work, analysis, and reporting to landowner/client.
- Ability to create management plans that capture landowner objectives.
- Ability to perform all aspects of timber sale development, including timber marking, boundary establishment, and timber valuations.
- Prepare timber sale bid notices and review timber sale contracts.
- Prepare and negotiate contracts with independent contractors for clients’ management services.
- Supervision of contracted services, including certifying completion of work for payment.
- Participate in forest inventory projects individually or with a team.
- Ability to generate new business (meeting with potential clients, explain our business, etc.)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or related field OR Associate’s Degree in Forestry.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient team player with adaptability.
- Capability to work in challenging field conditions.
- Valid Driver’s License with safe vehicle operation skills.
- Preferred experience with QGIS and ArcGIS software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools like Word and Excel.
- Soft Skills: communication, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability, attention to detail, time management and decision-making.
